NAU Tennis Sets Out on First Road Trip, Facing Cal Poly and Denver

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 31, 2025) – Northern Arizona Men's Tennis will head on the road for the first time in the Spring campaign this weekend, taking on the Cal Poly Mustangs in a neutral-site meeting on Saturday, followed by a matchup with Denver on Sunday morning.
 
Saturday's match will start at 11 a.m. MST, fans can stream matches here and live results will be available here. Sunday's matchup will start at 10:30 a.m. MST, streaming will be available here, while live stats can be found here.
 
The Lumberjacks started the season 2-0 in Flagstaff, kicking off the 2025 slate with back-to-back home matches, hosting Air Force and UC Riverside for a 5-2 victory and a 5-0 victory, respectively. Dani Torres, Jakub Prachar, and Takumi Katsuda have all taken a 2-0 start to singles play while Katsuda and Ivan Perisic's doubles team went 2-0 on the weekend as well.
 
Katsuda's impressive Lumberjack debut went on to secure Big Sky Player of the week honors, marking the first of his career. Katsuda went 4-0 in singles and doubles play while clinching both the doubles point with partner Ivan Perisic in a 7-6 (7-4) final, while going on to clinch the match with his singles victory in comeback fashion, taking down Air Force's Langdon Tingleaf, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Katsuda followed up with a doubles victory, once again clinching the point for NAU, with Perisic once again, finishing a 6-4 matchup against Cal Poly's Lucas Suarez and Lucas Mszyca. Katsuda closed out the Jacks 2-0 weekend with a 6-2, 6-1victory over Mszyca in singles play.
 
Saturday's meeting with Cal Poly will mark the first-ever matchup between the two programs. The Mustangs started the season 1-0 following a season-opener with Big Sky foe, Sacramento State where Cal Poly pulled off a 5-0 victory.
 
Denver will head into Sunday's matchup with a 4-1 record, picking up victories against UC Davis, Air Force, Montana State, and Louisville while dropping a 4-0 match to Princeton. NAU and Denver last met in 2023, where Denver claimed a 4-3 edge in Flagstaff.
