Results

BOSTON, Mass. (Feb. 1, 2025) –
Colin Sahlman and Boston make quite the duo.

A year after breaking the Big Sky Conference's and Northern Arizona's all-time record in the mile with a time of 3:53.17 at the BU John Thomas Terrier Invite, Sahlman did so once again this afternoon in Boston, Mass. He clocked 3:52.82 for a new personal best, conference and Northern Arizona school record, finishing sixth overall in the field.

He won the event last year and finished as the second top collegian this year – as the top collegian in the 2025 field, Ethan Strand, broke the collegiate indoor record in the mile (3:48.32) in the same heat.

Northern Arizona was well represented in the mile, with three Lumberjacks running under four minutes. Caleb Easton ran 3:59.37 for a new personal best that ranks 10th all-time. All top ten times in the mile in Northern Arizona history are now under four minutes. Ford Washburn ran 3:59.42 for a new personal best as well, his first time breaking four minutes in the mile.

Also competing in the mile were Kang Nyoak (4:00.99) and Clayton Shively who earned a personal best of over ten seconds, finishing in 4:01.56.

The five doubled and competed in the men's 3,000-meters as well. Sahlman led the way in 8:02.34 and he was followed by Washburn who had a ten second personal best, finishing in 8:03.75. Nyoak crossed the finish line in 8:09.60, and Easton (8:13.48) and Shively (8:20.05) both set new personal bests. It marked the first-ever collegiate indoor 3k for Shively, and Easton smashed his personal best by 27 seconds.

In the men's 5,000 meters, Drew Bosley clocked a season best of over 20 seconds, 13:21.11. David Mullarkey ran a personal best 13:23.75 that ranks seventh all-time in NAU history. Bosley's personal best of 13:13.26 currently ranks second.

A handful of women's distance runners competed at the BU John Thomas Terrier Invite yesterday, where Alex Carlson (3k, 8:53.17) and Elise Stearns (5k, 15:21.43) both broke conference and NAU records in their respective events as well. Back in Flagstaff, NAU hosted the Ron Mann Classic where freshman Shanye Harris broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44. Additionally, NAU won 12 events and set eight new top ten marks.

The bulk of the team will venture outside of Flagstaff for the first time this season in two weeks when NAU competes at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., from Feb. 14-15.
