FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 24, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's golf team will head down the mountain to compete in its first stroke play event of the spring season - the Grand Canyon Invitational from Feb. 25-26.
Playing on the par-72 GCU Golf Course, the first day will consist of 36 holes, while the second day will feature 18. For rounds one and two, the course will play at a total of 6,510 yards. The third round will be played at 6,426 yards, with the tee boxes on the fourth and eighth holes moved up.
Play on Tuesday will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Mountain Standard time. Wednesday's final round will have a double-tee start between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. MST, with tee times determined by the results of the first two rounds.
The tournament field will consist of hosts Grand Canyon, along with UC Irvine, Montana State, Northern Colorado, UTEP, Northern Illinois, Idaho, Houston Christian, Murray State, and Findlay.
Live scoring for the tournament will be available through Golf Genius.
In the 2024 tournament, Northern Arizona finished tied for 11th with rounds of +6, +9, and even par for a total of 879 strokes (+15). Lizzie Neale led the Lumberjacks with a 22nd-place finish, shooting 72 (E) in all three rounds to end the competition with 216 (E) strokes. New Mexico State won the team title with 846 (-18) strokes, also claiming individual medalist honors. Amy Hodgkins followed closely behind Neale, tying for 27th place after shooting 217 (+1) with rounds of 71 (-1), 74 (+2), and 72 (E).
Most recently, Northern Arizona finished as runners-up in the Mountain Classic Match Play, hosted by Boise State and Wyoming. The Lumberjacks defeated Wyoming in the first round (4-0-1) and St. Thomas in the semifinals (3-0-2) but narrowly fell to Boise State in the final (2-0-3).
Up next, the Lumberjacks will travel to Cedar City, Utah, for the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah from March 7-9.
