FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 24, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's swimming and diving team looks to secure its 12th consecutive Western Athletic Conference title this week in Houston, Texas. Held at the CRWC Natatorium, the championship will run from Wednesday, February 26, through Saturday, March 1.
The competition kicks off on Wednesday with three-meter diving, the 200-yard medley relay, the 800-yard freestyle relay, and one-meter diving.
Thursday's events will feature one and three-meter diving, the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, and 500-yard freestyle.
On Friday, divers will compete on platform, while swimmers will race in the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and 400-yard medley relay.
The final day will include an exhibition diving event along with races in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 1650-yard freestyle, and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Action begins at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Standard Time each day.
Other participating teams include: Air Force, California Baptist, Grand Canyon, Idaho, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Seattle U, UNLV, UTRGV, Utah Tech, and Wyoming.
Northern Arizona was voted as the top team in the pre-championship coaches' poll, followed by Grand Canyon in second and New Mexico State in third.
In last year's championship, the Lumberjacks dominated the field, scoring 841.5 points, finishing 253.5 points ahead of runner-up Grand Canyon.
In the 800-yard Freestyle Relay, the Lumberjacks took gold, setting a school record. Helena Robla-Alvarez set a lead-off record with a split of 1:48.11, breaking Emma Lowther's 2012 mark of 1:48.26. Robla-Alvarez, Bena Koehn, Maddy Rey, and Annie Carlton finished with a time of 7:13.38, shattering their own previous school record of 7:17.70.
Victoria Knapp secured her fourth consecutive title in the 1-meter diving, scoring 301.50 points.
Northern Arizona swept the podium in the 3-meter. Grace Wesche won gold with 320.10 points, Mackenna Stocker earned silver with 306.30 points, and Margaret Wesche took bronze with 306.25 points.
Stocker set a new school record with a score of 278.50 points in platform diving.
Elsa Musselman set a school record in the prelims, clocking 1:59.96, surpassing Hayley Mayhew's previous record of 2:00.04 in the 200-yard IM. Musselman also set the school record during prelims of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.16, breaking the 2016 WAC Championship record of 53.83 set by Alina Staffeldt.
Casey Craffey earned her third straight title, finishing with a time of 16:21.84 in the 1650-yard free.
In the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Musselman, Carlton, Sophie Velitchkov, and Koehn claimed gold while setting a school record of 3:20.02, breaking the previous mark of 3:21.53, set at the 2019 WAC Championships in Houston.
