HOUSTON, Texas (Feb. 27, 2025) — The Northern Arizona women's swimming and diving team continued to dominate the leaderboard at the Western Athletic Conference Championship, amassing a cumulative total of 303 points and holding a 65-point lead over their closest competitor, New Mexico State.
In the 1-meter diving preliminaries, Victoria Knapp delivered a stellar performance, placing first with a score of 295.30. Grace Wesche followed in second with 269.75 points, while Catalina Devia secured fifth place with 242.50. Mackenna Stocker finished seventh with 235.90, Margaret Wesche placed ninth with 224.85, and Kendall Marquez took 12th with 221.10.
With the top eight divers advancing to the finals, the Lumberjacks claimed five of those spots. Knapp continued her success, scoring 280.60 points to capture back-to-back gold medals. Defending champion Grace Wesche followed closely, earning silver with 279.20 points. Freshman Devia completed the podium sweep, securing bronze with 273.10. The 'Jacks have swept both diving finals so far.
In the 500-yard freestyle A final, Kylie Ney claimed a silver medal with a time of 4:49.54. The 2023 champion Casey Craffey placed fourth in 4:50.02. Meropi Eggink and Helena Robla-Alvarez also qualified for the A final, finishing seventh (4:57.41) and eighth (4:58.77), respectively.
Bena Koehn competed in the 500-yard freestyle B final, placing third with a time of 4:56.77. In the C final, Teddy Sabev tied for third with 5:05.01.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Elsa Musselman won the B final with a time of 2:01.94, followed by Kaci Kelaher in second (2:02.87). Cydnie Perkins placed sixth in 2:05.09.
Finally, in the 50-yard freestyle, Kokona Watanabe qualified for the B final, finishing seventh with a time of 23.75.
The third day of the championship begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Standard time and features platform diving, the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the 400-yard medley relay.
