Lumberjacks Meet Bears in Final Regular Season Road Contest

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 28, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team is embarking for its final regular season road contest of the year. The Lumberjacks play at Northern Colorado on Saturday, March 1 at 6 p.m. Mountain Standard time in Greeley, Colo.

Despite already locking in a No. 2 seed for the Big Sky Conference Championship, NAU has plenty to play for. If the Lumberjacks handle the Bears on Saturday and beat Idaho State in its final game on Monday evening and Montana State drops one of its final contests, NAU will be co-Big Sky regular season champions with MSU. The Bobcats clinched a share of the regular season title on Thursday evening.

Montana State is the only conference opponent the Lumberjacks have lost to. NAU sits at 23-6 on the season and 14-2 in Big Sky Conference play, winning five-straight heading into Saturday night's game. On the road this year, the Lumberjacks are 10-5 and are coming off a road sweep at Idaho and Eastern Washington last week.

After her performances on the road trip, junior Sophie Glancey won her seventh Big Sky Player of the Week award this season and her fourth in the last five weeks, giving NAU a conference record 11 this season. She averaged a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds per game and now ranks sixth in the nation with 16 double-doubles in 29 games played this season. Glancey also earned a career-high six blocks at EWU.

She has scored at least 20 points in 13 games this season, scoring in double figures 26 times. She leads the Big Sky in scoring (18.1 ppg), field goal percentage (50.7%) and blocks per game (1.8 bpg) while ranking fourth in rebounding (9.4 rpg). On a national level, she also ranks 16th in field goals (205), 22nd in points (524), 54th in points per game and 20th in rebounds (272).

As a team, Northern Arizona ranks 15th nationally in scoring offense (80.2), 10th in rebounds per game (42.86), seventh in defensive rebounds per game (30.0), 17th in three-pointers made per game (8.9), 10th in three-point attempts per game (27.5), 21st in free throws made per game (15.21), 35th in assists per game (16.6) and 23rd in assist/turnover ratio (1.23).

Taylor Feldman ranks second in the Big Sky in scoring behind Glancey with 16.3 points per game. She is also fifth in the league with 48 three-pointers made, third in free throw percentage (89.4%), third in assists per game (3.8) and second in assist/turnover ratio (1.7). Leia Beattie leads the league in assist/turnover ratio and is second in both three-point percentage (38.7%) and three-point field goals made (63).

Nyah Moran (11.4 ppg) and Olivia Moran (9.3 ppg) round out the scoring. The two are chasing the all-time games played record at NAU and will be honored with Beattie for Senior Night on Monday, March 3 against ISU. Additionally, Nyah Moran needs just two more points to move into ninth all-time on NAU's career scoring list.
Northern Colorado is 13-14 on the season and 6-10 in conference play, most recently falling to Idaho on the road last Saturday. The Bears lead the all-time series, 24-17, but the Lumberjacks have won eight-straight over UNC and three-straight in Greeley.

In the first matchup this year in Flagstaff, NAU won 68-52. It was just a three-point game at the half in NAU's favor (34-31) after the first half saw three lead changes and five ties. Northern Colorado shot 52 percent (13-25) in the first half, but the Lumberjack defense locked down and held the Bears to 25 percent in the second half on just 7-of-28 from the field and 21 points. Glancey led the way with 22 points.

As a team, UNC averages 61.0 points per game and allows 60.7 to rank third in the Big Sky. The Bears lead the league in field goal percentage, knocking down 42.3 percent of its shots, and they limit opponents to 29.7 percent behind the three-point line. UNC is also second in steals as a team with 9.54 per game.
