Maggi Congdon Breaks NAU, Big Sky Conference, Records in the 800-meters at Bryan Clay Invitational

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 17, 2025) –
The Northern Arizona track and field team took on day two of its busy week in California, competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif.
 
Maggi Congdon's school and Big Sky Conference record in the 800-meters highlighted five new all-time top ten marks from the distance runners.

Maggi Congdon broke Northern Arizona's and the Big Sky Conference's record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:00.27. She breaks Angela Chalmers' school record of 2:03.52 that has stood since 1987 and the Big Sky's record of 2:02.95 that has stood since 2011. Her time is currently the second fastest in the NCAA this season.
 
Additionally, she had a personal best of over five seconds, crushing her previous best of 2:05.38 that was fourth all-time in NAU history. She narrowly finished second overall in the field, finishing behind LSU's Michaela Rose who ran 2:00.22.
 
Odessa Zentz and Kiki Vaughn both launched themselves onto NAU's all-time top ten list in the 800-meters. Zentz ran a personal best, crossing the line in 2:06.75 to now rank eighth all-time in program history. In her outdoor debut, Vaughn, a freshman, clocked 2:08.24 to rank 10th all-time.
 
Drew Bosley competed in his first outdoor 5,000-meters since the 2022 season and earned an eight second personal best, clocking 13:17.06 to move from eighth to fifth on NAU's all-time list. David Mullarkey ran the first outdoor 5,000-meters of his Northern Arizona career with a time of 13:29.55, good for 10th all-time in program history.
 
A handful of Lumberjacks also set personal bests in the men's 5,000-meters in Santiago Prosser (13:35.94), Justin Keyes (13:37.90), Aidan Puffer (13:48.14), Emmanual Perez (13:52.62) and Randy Espinosa (14:01.59).
 
On the women's side, Alexis Kebbe came just short of her personal best in the 5,000-meters, crossing the line in 16:28.50.

The throwers competed at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif.
 
Nikolas Strait threw two personal bests, starting with 51.09-meters in the hammer throw and 49.92-meters in the discus. Amar Elmore was the top finisher for NAU in the discus, recording a personal best of 50.83-meters.
 
In the women's hammer throw, Sariyah Horne-Kemp made it to finals and placed ninth overall with a toss of 58.32-meters. She was also NAU's lone competitor in the discus, throwing 48.18-meters.
 
Northern Arizona will split between three meets tomorrow. The distance runners, jumpers and sprinters will conclude action at the Bryan Clay Invitational while the throwers will kick off day one of the Beach Invitational.
