Maggi Congdon Breaks Own School Record in the 1500-Meters on Final Day of Bryan Clay Invitational

CALIFORNIA (April 18, 2025) –
Another day, another school and Big Sky Conference record for Maggi Congdon. A day after breaking a 38-year-old record in the 800-meters, Congdon broke her own record again in the 1,500-meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 4:07.23 in Azusa, Calif.
 
The record highlighted a busy day for the Northern Arizona track and field team, which saw the squad split between three different meets in California. Along with the distance runners, the sprinters and jumpers were also on hand at Bryan Clay. The throwers were in action at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., while a handful of male sprinters competed at the Mt. SAC Relays.
 
On the day, the Lumberjacks saw seven new all-time top ten marks, bringing the total to 15 since Wednesday night.

Maggi Congdon broke her second NAU and Big Sky Conference record of the weekend, this time in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:07.23 to place second overall. She broke her previous school record by .58 of a second (4:07.81).
 
NAU had three other 'Jacks leap onto the all-time top ten list in the women's 1500-meters as well, with Keira Moore clocking 4:18.01 to rank sixth all-time, Maisie Grice running 4:18.40 to rank seventh, and Ava Mitchell clocking 4:19.45 to rank 10th all-time. Mitchell's was a personal best by over 10 seconds.
 
On the men's side, Ford Washburn ran a nine second personal best in the 1500-meters, crossing the line in 3:40.52 to place 14th overall in the invitational section. Clay Shively ran 3:49.32 in his outdoor debut in the event. In the elite section, Caleb Easton ran 3:49.87 and Corey Gorgas won his heat with a time of 3:42.27.
 
The women's 4x100-meter relay team made up of Jordann Germain, LiNay Perry, Kyairra Reigh and Shanye Harris teamed up to run the seventh-fastest time in program history at 45.45 to place seventh in the field.
 
Reigh then turned around and placed second in the 400-meters with a time of 53.90 and Harris placed 17th in the 100-meters, clocking 11.89.
 
Perry competed in the 400-meter hurdles where she took second overall with a blazing time of 58.72, just shy of her personal best of 58.00. Katherine Lemish recorded a personal best in the same event, clocking 1:05.56.
 
Also, in the women's 400-meters, Jordann Germain ran a personal record of 55.69 to place 19th. A day after running the 10th-fastest 800-meter time in program history, Odessa Zentz placed fourth in the 400-meters with a personal best of 56.66.
 
Germain led the 'Jacks in the 200-meters with a time of 24.65.
 
Luke Yruretagoyena was the top NAU finisher in the 400-meters, setting a new personal best of 48.16. He also ran a personal record in the 200-meters (22.51)
 
A trio of men's 100-meter runners placed in the top 20, led by Kyle Smith (9th, 10.66), Khamis Hassan (15th, 10.72) and Lamar Smith (16th, 10.73). Both Kyle Smith, Lamar Smith and Hassan also ran the 4x100-meters where they placed sixth in 40.99.
 
Kyle Smith was the top finisher for the 'Jacks in the 200-meters, placing eighth with a time of 21.27. Lamar Smith followed in 21.89.
 
Shon Martin led the way for the men in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 17th with a personal best of 14.57. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Sydnie Watkins clocked 14.51 followed by Lemish in 14.63.
 
Over in the field events, Brenna Rodriguez placed 12th in the long jump with a leap of 5.70-meters while Alexa Hamilton earned a 15th-place finish with a new personal best of 5.55-meters. Hamilton also placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.70-meters.
 
In the men's long jump, Ian Lipsey was the top NAU finisher, notching a 14th place finish with a mark of 6.93-meters, followed by Malachi Marshall who placed 17th with a jump of 6.83-meters.
 
Carter Anderson set a new personal best in the high jump after clearing 1.96-meters to place 12th. Christian Mutengela also cleared 1.96-meters and jumped 6.32-meters in the long jump.
 
Sirr Butler placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.49-meters.

Josiah Johnson finished second overall in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 51.13 for a new personal best that ranks fourth all-time in program history. Nicolas Martinez also earned a new personal record in the event, clocking 53.55 to place 17th.
 
Tyson Givens earned a ninth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 14.25. He also finished 15th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.03.
 
A few hours after competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in two events, Khamis Hassan raced the 200-meters where he clocked 21.99. The men's 4x400-meter relay team placed 10th with a time of 3:13.25.

In the men's hammer throw, Desmond Lott made finals and placed third overall with a new personal best of 64.93-meters, which also ranks fifth all-time.
 
A day after setting a new personal best in the hammer throw, Nikolas Strait threw another with a toss of 54.51-meters. Grant Wade tossed a new personal record of 48.02-meters, rounding out new personal bests for all three men's hammer throwers.
 
Sariyah Horne-Kemp made it to finals of the women's hammer throw where she finished sixth with a toss of 59.02-meters, just shy of her personal best. Jamie Jacobs recorded a new personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.96-meters. Making her outdoor debut, Ronan Gallagher threw 50.31-meters.
 
In the men's javelin, Trevor Hook notched a fifth-place finish with a throw of 61.89-meters, followed by Clay Carbajal who finished sixth with a mark of 61.62-meters. Austin Taylor finished 16th with a personal best of 56.97-meters.
 
Emilia Betlej placed 15th in the javelin with a toss of 38.79-meters.
 
Tomorrow concludes four-straight days of action for NAU. The throwers will compete on day two of the Beach Invitational, while a handful of sprinters on the women's side will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays.
