LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 5, 2025) – The Northern Arizona men's and women's track and field teams concluded another successful weekend, wrapping up competition at the UNLV Rebel ELITE today in Las Vegas, Nev. There, the Lumberjacks earned five new top ten marks to give Northern Arizona a total of 14 new all-time marks over the weekend.
Sydnie Watkins, a freshman, clocked the second fastest time in program history in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.93 to place ninth in the event, just two weeks after she ran 14.37 to rank 10
th all-time.
Katherine Lemish also ran a personal best of 14.42.
The Lumberjacks picked up another top ten mark in the men's 110-meter hurdles as
Tyson Givens ran a personal best of 14.13 that ranks seventh all-time to finish third.
Josiah Johnson ran a personal record of 14.42 to place sixth.
In the 100-meters,
Shanye Harris launched herself onto the top ten list after running 11.71, good for seventh all-time to place fifth overall. Also earning a new top ten mark in the 100-meters was
Khamis Hassan who clocked 10.47 to rank seventh all-time and seventh in the field.
Despite missing out on finals,
Emilia Betlej threw a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 40.12-meters, which ranks eighth all-time in program history.
Kyairra Reigh won the 400-meters by over a second, clocking a time of 53.42.
Taylor Jacobs ran a personal best of over two seconds in the event, placing 13
th with a time of 57.02. Reigh was also NAU's top finisher in the 200-meters, placing eighth with a time of 23.76.
NAU placed three athletes in the top ten of the men's discus, led by
Desmond Lott who placed second with a toss of 53.63-meters.
Amar Elmore (6
th, 48.90m) and
Nikolas Strait (8
th, 47.78m) each earned personal bests in the event.
Both
Sirr Butler and
Shon Martin made it to the finals of the men's triple jump, where Butler placed seventh with a mark of 14.31-meters and Martin was ninth after leaping 13.83-meters.
Alexa Hamilton was NAU's top finisher in the triple jump, placing eighth with a jump of 11.83-meters in her outdoor debut in the event.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp placed 13
th in the discus throw with a mark of 43.16-meters.
A pair of javelin throwers on the men's side also made it to finals, with school record holder
Trevor Hook leading the way with a third-place finish after throwing 64.31 meters on his final attempt. Zakk Thomas placed eighth with a throw of 57.26-meters.
In the 200-meters, Hassan was the top NAU finisher in ninth with a personal best of 21.57. Right behind him was
Kyle Smith who placed 10
th in 21.65.
LiNay Perry was the top NAU finisher in the 400-meter hurdles, placing eighth with a time of 1:01.23. Three 'Jacks also placed in the top ten on the men's side in the 400-meter hurdles, with
Josiah Johnson leading the way with a second-place finish (52.56).
Nicolas Martinez (54.57, 5th) and
Tyson Givens (54.69, 8
th) rounded out the competition.
Harris, Perry, Watkins and Reigh teamed up to run 46.42 in the 4x100-meter relay to place fourth. In the men's 4x100-meter relay,
Lamar Smith,
Kyle Smith,
Zachary Sutton and
Khamis Hassan ran 40.54 to place sixth.
Also in the relays, the men's 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:15.35, while the women's team also placed fourth with a time of 3:56.68.
NAU placed three in the top 11 of the men's 400-meters, led by
Luke Yruretagoyena (8
th, 48.29),
Liam Gair (9
th, 48.78) and
Nicolas Martinez (11
th, 49.08).
NAU takes another week break before spending some time in California from April 16-19. The distance runners will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 16-18. The throwers will compete at two different meets in Long Beach on April 17-19, and the sprinters and jumpers will be in action at the Mt. SAC Relays from April 17-19.
