FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (August 4, 2025) – For the first time since 2016, the Northern Arizona football team is ranked in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25, coming in at No. 19 to start the 2025 season.
The Lumberjacks are one of six teams ranked in the preseason top 25 behind Montana State (No. 2), Montana (No. 7), UC Davis (No. 8), Idaho (No. 12) and Sacramento State (No. 15).
Defending national champion North Dakota State received 54-of-56 first-place votes to sit atop the rankings.
NAU also came in at No. 19 in the HERO Sports FCS Preseason Top 25 released at the end of May.
The 'Jacks, coming off an 8-5 season with a 6-2 record in Big Sky play, received their first Stats Perform national ranking going into Week 11 last fall and were slotted in the final four national rankings finishing at No. 22.
This fall, NAU hosts three preseason top 25 teams in the Walkup Skydome. The Lumberjacks have No. 5 Incarnate Word on the home schedule on Sept. 20 with Montana State and Idaho set to roll into Flagstaff on Oct. 4 and Oct. 31 respectively. NAU also is scheduled to face UC Davis on the road on Oct. 11.
