FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (August 4, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team will kick off the 2025 season with back-to-back exhibition matches at Lumberjack Stadium. The 'Jacks will host in-state rivals Arizona on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. MST, followed by Arizona State on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. MST.
Both exhibition matches, as well as all regular season matches, at Lumberjack Stadium are free for fans to attend.
This week's exhibitions mark the start of the third season under head coach
Alan Berrios, with the Lumberjacks returning 21 players and welcoming 12 newcomers. NAU is coming off a season in which it went 4-3-1 in conference play.
Avery Ott headlines NAU's returners as a 2024 All-Big Sky Second Team honoree. Ott led the 'Jacks in shot attempts with a total of 35 and finished with one goal and two assists. With a high volume of shots, Ott is a strong presence in the Lumberjacks midfield, creating opportunities and great looks at the goal.
Micala Boex had an impressive debut season last fall, recording three goals, three assists and 27 shots. As NAU's leading goal scorer, Boex is a key playmaker and offensive threat given her .444 shot-on-goal percentage.
The Lumberjacks are aiming to replace three-time all-conference goalkeeper
Trinity Corcoran. A trio of newcomers in
Lexi Saveski,
Alondra Carbajal-Pettry and
Reece Reichwald will compete for the spot. All three are Arizona high school products with Saveski (Cal Baptist) and Carbajal-Pettry (Ottawa) transferring in as upperclassmen.
NAU and Arizona last met in Flagstaff in 2023 with the Wildcats taking a 2-1 win. NAU pressured Arizona, creating 15 goal opportunities to the Wildcats' 12. The Lumberjacks' defense also limited the Wildcats in the close defeat, with NAU totaling four saves, trumping Arizona's three saves. The Wildcats qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2024 in their first season in the Big 12, finishing with an 11-6-2 record.
The Lumberjacks earned a 1-1 draw in their previous match against the Sun Devils last season. Playing in Tempe,
Deniah Wells scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute off an assist from Ott. NAU recorded nine shot attempts and six saves in the season opener for both teams. Arizona State posted an 8-8-3 record last fall, while also competing in the Big 12 for the first year.
