Northern Arizona Earns Three Big Sky Athlete of the Week Honors

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 16, 2026) – Northern Arizona Track & Field claimed three of the four Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors following a nationally impactful weekend of competition.

On the men's side, Colin Sahlman was named Big Sky Men's Track Athlete of the Week after running 3:52.30 in the mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The mark ranks No. 3 in the NCAA this season and further solidifies Sahlman's standing among the nation's elite milers.

In the field events, Justin Cardoza earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors after jumping 15.82 meters (51-11) in the triple jump at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. The performance moves Cardoza to No. 2 in NAU indoor history and currently ranks No. 30 nationally.

On the women's side, Hayley Burns was selected as Big Sky Women's Track Athlete of the Week following her 8:48.10 performance in the 3000 meters in Boston. Burns' mark ranks No. 15 in the NCAA this season and places her firmly in the national qualifying conversation.

Northern Arizona returns home Friday, Feb. 20, to host the NAU Tune Up in Flagstaff. The Lumberjacks will also send a squad to Boulder for the Colorado Last Chance Meet, targeting a national-qualifying time in the distance medley relay.
