FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 25, 2026) - The Northern Arizona men's tennis team prepares for their first Big Sky Conference matchup of the season this week against the Idaho State Bengals.

The Lumberjacks will seek to start league play with a win on Friday, Feb. 27 with the first serve being at 10 a.m. The match will be at the NAU Tennis Center and is free for fans to attend. There will be a raffle for an NAU Tennis Backpack, as well as community hours following the match with special guests from the NAU Club Tennis Team.

The Lumberjacks enter this matchup after a weekend where they came away with back-to-back victories, 4-1 against Gardner-Webb and 6-1 against Air Force, both played in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Last season the Lumberjacks kicked off Big Sky play with a 5-2 win against the Portland State Vikings, sparking them to a clean 8-0 record in the conference.

NAU played the Bengals last season on Mar. 9, in a scoreline of a 6-1 win in Pocatello, Idaho.
Takumi Katsuda and
Jakub Volesky secured singles victories in that match at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in the lineup. Volesky took his match in straight sets while Katsuda battled and won in a third set tiebreak.

The Bengals have three wins on the season, but enter this contest seeking their first DI victory, holding two wins over Colorado Mesa University and one against Whitworth University.Â

The Lumberjacks have two common opponents with Idaho State, the Utah Utes and the Utah State Aggies, who beat both schools by roughly the same scores.
