NAU Heads to Cali this Week for Trio of Matches

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 17, 2026) – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team travels to California for three matches this week, starting with one neutral contest followed by two true road affairs.

The Lumberjacks travel to the campus of Point Loma in San Diego to meet the Colgate Raiders on Thursday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m. MST and the Sea Wolves later the same day at 4:30 p.m. MST. NAU then heads to Sacramento State for a matchup with the Hornets on Saturday, March 21 at 12 p.m. MST.

The Lumberjacks stand atop the conference with a 2-0 record in Big Sky games and are 8-5 overall on the season. Four of five blemishes on the year have come at the hands of ranked opponents. The Jacks fell by the slimmest of margins, 4-3, to #71 Denver on March 7. The Jacks will look to extend a string of regular-season Big Sky victories spanning back to the 2024 season to 16 against the Hornets on Saturday.

Colgate enters this contest with a 5-7 record, including a 1-1 mark in Patriot League matches. The Raiders fell to Point Loma on Monday, 7-0, and will head back east following their contest with NAU. The Jacks met the Raiders just once previously, also in a neutral site in Chandler, Ariz., during the 2000 season which the Raiders took in a 4-3 decision.

Division II member Point Loma stands at 3-5 on the season. The Sea Wolves do not share any common opponents with NAU this season but faced DI opponent Wofford, falling in a 5-2 decision in their season opener on Jan. 31. Point Loma was picked fourth in the PacWest Preseason Poll and has made three straight NCAA Regional appearances.  The Jacks lead the all-time series with the Sea Wolves, 2-0.

Sacramento State stands at an even 7-7 and 1-1 in Big Sky matches. The Hornets most recently suffered a 7-0 shutout at the hands of the Vandals in Moscow. NAU has won seven regular season meetings in a row against Sacramento State but saw itself bounced in the 2024 Championships by the Hornets in a 4-1 loss. The Horners were picked seventh in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
