Lumberjacks Go South for Desert Heat Classic in Tucson

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 30, 2026) - Northern Arizona track and field returns to action Saturday at the Desert Heat Classic, hosted by Arizona at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson.

The meet begins with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at 3 p.m., continuing into the evening. The schedule features a full slate of events, including sprints, hurdles, distance races, relays and all field disciplines.

Northern Arizona will bring a full squad Saturday, May 2, as the Lumberjacks continue preparation for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 13–16.

The meet unfolds across a full day of competition, beginning with field events in the morning and transitioning into running events in the afternoon before closing under the lights with the distance races and relays.

Northern Arizona opens the day in the field events with entries in the javelin and hammer, followed by long jump at noon and triple jump later in the afternoon. The Lumberjacks will also compete in the high jump, discus and shot put as field events extend into the evening session.

On the track, Northern Arizona begins with the 4x100-meter relays before moving into hurdle races and sprint events in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. The schedule also includes entries in the 400-meter hurdles as the meet progresses.

The distance events begin with the steeplechase and continue through the 1,500 meters and 800 meters, before closing with the 5,000 meters and 4x400-meter relays to conclude the meet.

The Desert Heat Classic serves as one of the final regular-season opportunities for athletes to post qualifying marks and refine competition ahead of the postseason.
