Las Vegas, Nev. (October 14, 2018) – Northern Arizona Men's Tennis kicked off the ITA Regional Championship on Monday, Oct. 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lumberjacks had members compete in both qualifying for singles and doubles.
In qualifying singles the 'Jacks went 2-3 on the day, as neither
Ron Idzon, Tom Fisher or
Ruben Montano could make it out into the main draw. In Idzon's opening match of the day he fell to Michael Tran of University of New Mexico 7-6 and 6-3. With the lost, Idzon will play in consolation on Tuesday, Oct 16. Both Fisher and Montano were able to win their first matches of the day and were both one win away from qualifying. Unfortunately Montano lost in two sets to Martin Simecek of New Mexico State University while Fisher lost in two sets to Mithcell Johnson of Utah State University. Thus ending their tournaments.
In the qualifying doubles NAU had the pair of Idzon and
Facundo Tumosa teaming up. The duo would take on Jonathan Aremon and Daniel Dudockin. Sadly, Idzon and Tumosa fell by the score of 8-4 on the day. This ended the duo's chance of moving onto the doubles main.
