sLAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Northern Arizona men's tennis team fell to Marquette University in a close 4-3 neutral match.
"We lost a tough one today, but we fought hard," Director of Tennis
Ki Kroll said.
Marquette Golden Eagles dominated in doubles defeating the 'Jacks 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions before
Thomas Fisher and
Lucas Taylor could finish their match.
In singles, junior
Tim Handel tied it up for the 'Jacks at 1-1 after he defeated his Golden Eagle opponent 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 position.
Marquette then went up 3-1 winning on the next two courts before NAU was able to get on the board again with Taylor's 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position and
Sebastian Eguez' 7-6(6), 6-3 win at the No. 6 position.
With the score all tied up at 3-3, it was down to the final court between NAU's
Felix Schumann and MU's Greg Anderson.
Marquette was able to solidify the win 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 over Schumann to defeat Northern Arizona 4-3 overall.
The 'Jacks are now 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky going into their home opener against North Dakota and Northern Colorado this weekend.
