FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — After garnering just four wins in a series of 12 road matches, the Northern Arizona men's tennis team displayed a dominating performance in its home opening competition defeating the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 7-0.
The Lumberjacks notched their first conference shut out over the Fighting Hawks to increase to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in the Big Sky.
"We came out ready to play, we took care of business and we did what we needed to do," Director of Tennis
Ki Kroll said. "It was exciting being home again for our first match."
In doubles,
Felix Schumann and
Ruben Montano started it off for the 'Jacks winning 6-0 at the No. 3 position before
Lucas Taylor and
Adi Zilberstein clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 position.
"Our energy was high," said Kroll, which carried into the best singles performance this season for the Lumberjacks.
Northern Arizona defeated every UND opponent in two sets on all courts with Taylor, Schumann and
Tim Handel solidifying the Lumberjacks' third Big Sky win going up 4-0 over North Dakota.
"We just worked on our energy, especially in doubles, this week and it really paid off in the end," said Kroll. "It was a good win for us."
The Lumberjacks will host Northern Colorado tomorrow, March 18 in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex at 10 a.m. All fans will receive NAU-branded rally towels and cork coasters while supplies last.
