NAU Men's Tennis To Compete Against LMU and UCR In California Road Trip

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona men's tennis team will continue its 12-match road stretch in California this weekend against Loyola Marymount and UC Riverside March 3 and 4, respectively.
 
The Lumberjacks, currently 2-5 overall and 1-0 in conference, will first compete against LMU Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. before taking on UCR the following day at 2 p.m.
 
Northern Arizona is coming off their second win of the season against Portland State to start Big Sky action. Following this weekend, the 'Jacks will compete in three more road matches before hosting their home opener against North Dakota.

  • Junior Tim Handel was the first Lumberjack to notch an Athlete of the Week honor this season on Feb. 28.
  • Last season the Lumberjacks finished on top as the 2017 Big Sky Regular Season champions for the first time in 35 years after recording a 15-8 overall record and 10-1 conference mark.

Loyola Marymount is currently 6-2 overall coming off of three straight wins against Fresno State, Cal Poly and Nevada. The Lions will host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in their lone match of the weekend Saturday. The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2016 in Flagstaff where the Lions picked up a 5-2 win over the 'Jacks. The 12-man roster is led by head coach Tom Lloyd who is in his fifth year with the LMU men's tennis program.

The Highlanders are currently 4-8 overall and have yet to compete in conference. UC Riverside is coming off of a 5-2 win over Colorado State – Pueblo and will host a double header Sunday, March 4 against two Big Sky opponents in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. The last time the Highlanders faced the Lumberjacks was in Flagstaff where the 'Jacks won 4-0 last season. The 10-man roster is led by head coach Mattias Johansson who is in his third season with the Highlanders.
 
Coming Up
Northern Arizona will continue Big Sky action on the road against Idaho and Eastern Washington. The Lumberjacks will first travel to Lewiston, Wash. to face the Vandals Friday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m. The 'Jacks will then take on Eastern Washington in Cheney Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
