HURRICANE, Utah — The Northern Arizona women's tennis team started its three-match week off with a close 4-3 win over Southern Utah.
"The team has showed a lot of depth today," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said. "We played well in doubles, and picked up wins from different spots in the lineup in singles."
Northern Arizona led on all three courts in doubles with
Eirene Granville and
Cora-Lynn von Dungern starting it off with a 6-1 win before
Hanneke Lodewijks and
Ellie Millard clinched the point 6-3.
The Lumberjacks went into singles 1-0 over the Thunderbirds picking up the next two points with Granville's 6-1, 6-1 win and Lodewijks 6-3, 6-2 win.
Southern Utah was able to get on the board with the score 3-0, picking up their first win at the No. 4 position before the overall victory was clinched.
The final point for the 'Jacks came from Millard, who defeated Thunderbird opponent Charity Sagiao 6-3, 6-4.
With the final score 4-3, Northern Arizona increased to a 11-3 overall record and remain undefeated 6-0 in the Big Sky.
"We need to recover quickly and be ready for a tough Montana State team on Friday," said Bogusz.
The Lumberjacks will compete in two more matches this weekend against Montana State Friday, March 30 and Northern Colorado Sunday, April 1. Both matches will be held in Flagstaff at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. The events are free to all who attend and giveaways will be provided both days while supplies last.
