FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — It was the first home match outdoors for the Northern Arizona women's tennis team and resulted in its fourth straight win to remain the only undefeated team in the Big Sky after defeating Montana State 6-1.
"We felt good and ready to play," assistant coach
Ewa Bogusz said. "We have a pretty good team dynamic and our returners led finishing first and helping us clinch the win."
Northern Arizona led on all three courts in doubles with
Chiara Tomasetti and
Madi Moore starting it off with a 6-2 win before
Hanneke Lodewijks and
Ellie Millard clinched the point 6-1.
Cora-Lynn von Dungern and
Eirene Granville were leading 5-2 before they could finish.
With the score 1-0, the Lumberjacks continued a strong performance winning on the next four courts. The returners led the team this afternoon with Lodewijks finishing first with a 6-1, 6-0 win before Tomasetti, who defeated the Bobcat opponent 6-2, 6-1. Granville finished it off for Northern Arizona clinching the win 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 5 position.
"It was good for the freshmen to see our returners dominate today it makes them more comfortable and powerful in their own play," said Bogusz.
Millard and Moore also picked up wins for the 'Jacks to increase the score to 6-1 with Montana State getting on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win.
Northern Arizona will be back in action on Sunday, April 1 to host Northern Colorado. The 'Jacks and Bears will compete at 10 a.m. in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.
