FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona women's tennis team notched its fifth straight win defeating Northern Colorado at home with a final score of 6-1.
The Lumberjacks swept doubles with
Chiara Tomasetti and
Madi Moore finishing first at the No. 2 position and
Hanneke Lodewijks and
Ellie Millard clinching the point at the No. 1 position. Both courts finished with a 6-1 score.
Eirene Granville and Cora Lynn Von Dungern also won their match finishing 6-3 against UNC's Carrigan Blanchard and Sabrina Chhabra.
"It was a good team effort, we all played well," Tomasetti said. "I tried to lead the team again by finishing first in doubles and singles."
Northern Arizona continued momentum into singles winning the next three points at the No. 2, 4 and 5 positions; all in two sets.
With the score 1-0, Tomasetti took on Bear opponent Anna Battersby to garner a 6-0, 6-0 sweep before Millard went on to win 6-0, 6-1. Moore then clinched the win at 4-0 with her 6-1, 6-1 victory over UNC's Chhabra.
Northern Arizona continued the match with Lodewijks finishing in a 10-6 tiebreak over UNC's Rafa Mora. Mora took the first set 6-4 and Lodewijks came back finishing the second 6-3.
The Bears then got on the board to put the score at 5-1 after defeating Von Dungern 7-6, 6-4. Freshman
Worthy Goldman finished the match winning in a 10-4 tiebreak after falling in her second set.
"We did really well as a whole," said Tomasetti.
The Lumberjacks increase to 13-3 overall and remain undefeated in the Big Sky at 8-0. The 'Jacks will compete in another three matches this upcoming week against Utah State Friday at 11 a.m., Idaho State Saturday at noon and Weber State Sunday at 10 a.m.
