NAU Women’s Tennis Host North Dakota for Final Big Sky Regular Season Match

Three-time Big Sky Regular Season Champs Northern Arizona compete in final home match against North Dakota

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For the final time this season, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team will compete in Flagstaff to end Big Sky regular season action.  

The Lumberjacks will host the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. Friday, April 13.

Northern Arizona has just two matches in regular season action; this weekend's lone match against North Dakota and next week's non-conference match against Grand Canyon.

The 'Jacks are currently 16-3 overall and 10-0 in conference action as the only undefeated team. Notably, the Lumberjacks have continued a three-year streak garnering 32-straight regular-season wins.

The 'Jacks roster is comprised of junior Hanneke Lodewijks, who was garnered a Big Sky Athlete of the Week honor and is leading the conference in singles wins with 16. Sophomore Chiara Tomasetti is not far behind notching two AOTW honors and is second in the conference in singles wins with 13.

In addition, all three doubles pairs in Lodewijks and Ellie MillardTomasetti and Madi Moore and Eirene Granville and Cora-Lynn von Dungern are leading on the courts in wins compared to the rest of their conference opponents.

This week's match is free for all who attend. Giveaways include an NAU-branded cooler and free pizza.

North Dakota is coming off of two 7-0 shutouts against South Dakota State and Northern Colorado and will compete against Northern Arizona and Southern Utah this weekend. The Fighting Hawks are currently 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky leading into their final three matches of the regular season. North Dakota hosted the Lumberjacks last season falling 7-0. The 12-woman roster is led by head coach Tom Wynne who is in 27th season.
 
Coming Up
The now three-time Big Sky Regular Season champions of Northern Arizona will take on the Grand Canyon Antelopes at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21. The Lumberjacks will compete in their final match of the regular season before entering the Big Sky Conference championship tournament as the No. 1 seed with a first-round bye.
