LOGAN, Utah — The Northern Arizona women's tennis defeated non-conference opponent the Utah State Aggies this morning 4-0 to increase to a 14-3 overall record.
"I am very proud of the way the team competed today," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said. "Utah State is a very good team and to beat them on the road is a huge accomplishment."
Northern Arizona started off strong in doubles with
Hanneke Lodewijks and
Ellie Millard finishing first defeating Sabrina Demerath and Maggie O'Meara before
Chiara Tomasetti and
Madi Moore clinched the point. Both courts finished with a 6-2 score to put the 'Jacks up 1-0 going into singles.
"We took care of the point and played our style of doubles," said Bogusz.
After the doubles point was clinched, junior Lodewijks garnered a 6-2, 6-2 win over USU's O'Meara.
Tomasetti picked up the next point for the Lumberjacks extending the lead to 3-0 after defeating Aggie opponent Sasha Pisareva 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman Millard then clinched the win 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-0 to give Northern Arizona its sixth consecutive victory with a final 4-0 score against the Aggies.
"The team competed with a high level of effort, energy and toughness this morning," said Bogusz. "It was a great start to the weekend."
Northern Arizona will continue its three-match weekend against Idaho State Saturday, April 7 at noon before traveling back to Utah to take on Weber State Sunday, April 8 at 10 a.m.
