LEWISTON, Idaho — The Northern Arizona women's tennis team has surpassed 30-straight regular-season wins against Big Sky opponents after adding Idaho State to the list Saturday with a 6-1 victory on the road.
"I don't think we played our best tennis today," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said. "But we competed really hard and were tough when we needed to be."
Northern Arizona saw early success again in doubles with
Hanneke Lodewijks and
Ellie Millard finishing first 6-2 against ISU's Hristina Cvetkovic and Megan Poe. The Bengals evened it up with a 6-1 win over
Eirene Granville and
Cora-Lynn von Dungern before
Chiara Tomasetti and
Madi Moore clinched the point 6-4 at the No. 3 position.
Lodewijks, who is leading the team in singles wins with 14, picked up her fifth straight victory to finish first for the 'Jacks 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Millard followed in her footsteps notching her seventh straight win 7-5, 6-2 against Melissa Coburn. Tomasetti finished it off clinching the win at 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position.
Idaho State got on the board next increasing the score to 4-1 after Bengal's Louise-Mare Botes defeated Von Dungern 6-4, 6-4.
Granville and Moore then topped it off with a 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 win, respectively.
"Idaho State came prepared and competed well, credit to them" said Bogusz. "Now we need to recover and be ready for a strong Weber State opponent tomorrow."
Northern Arizona will conclude its three-match road week against Weber State Sunday, April 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ogden Athletic Club.
