ODGEN, Utah – Half of the Northern Arizona women's tennis team was recognized this year in the All-Big Sky selections, announced by the conference office today, May 4.
Four Lumberjacks in junior
Hanneke Lodewijks, sophomore
Chiara Tomasetti and freshmen
Madi Moore and
Ellie Millard garnered honors across singles and doubles after another winning season.
Northern Arizona garnered the 2018 Big Sky regular season championship title, for the third year in a row, in addition to notching one of the program's winningest seasons with 47 doubles wins and 85 singles wins contributing to a 19-4 overall record and undefeated 11-0 conference mark.
"It is great to see that the team's hard work and progress is being noticed by the conference," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said.
Lodewijks, a junior from the Netherlands, was the only Lumberjack to notch first team honors in both singles and doubles. Leading the team throughout the season, Lodewijks ended with the most singles wins in an 18-4 overall record and 10-1 mark in the Big Sky. She also picked up a Big Sky Athlete of the Week honor early in the season.
In doubles, Lodewijks went 17-4 overall and recorded an undefeated 9-0 in conference action.
"We were very strong in doubles play all across the board, going 25-3 in Big Sky action," said Bogusz. "All of our pairs competed at a high level this season."
Paired with Lodewijks, Millard concluded her first year with the Lumberjacks. Lodewijks and Millard ended 15-3 overall and remained the only undefeated duo in blue and gold primarily at the No. 1 position. In addition to her first team doubles honor, Millard also picked up an All-Big Sky second team honor in singles after garnering 15 singles wins overall, nine in conference.
"It's great to see Ellie being recognized," Bogusz said. "She had a fantastic season and we are looking forward to what she can do for the team in the future."
In addition to Lodewijks, Tomasetti also received first team accolades in both singles and doubles.
Much like Lodewijks, the sophomore from Germany, garnered an All-Conference first team honor in singles after recording a 17-5 overall record, 9-2 in the Big Sky. She also picked up two Athlete of the Week honors this season alone after coming off a fantastic freshman performance last season where she was named co-freshman of the year.
Paired in doubles, Tomasetti and Moore also received an All-Conference second team honor. The duo led the Lumberjacks throughout the season with a 16-2 overall record, 9-1 in the Big Sky.
"Congratulations to all the athletes who received an All-Conference honor," Bogusz said.
Northern Arizona returns the entire seven-woman roster next season.
