Tim Handel was able to win the Big Sky Player of the week after his 2-0 performance on the weekend against the University of Portland. This honor marks the first of the 2019 season and fifth of his career.
Handel's 2-0 performance helped push NAU to a 4-3 victory over the Pilots for the Lumberjacks first win of the season.
In the Match, Handel picked up a win as the No. 1 doubles team and No. 1 singles player. The nation's 25th-ranked duo of Handel and
Ruben Montano clinched the doubles point for the Lumberjacks with a 6-3 win over Portland's Eleftherios Neos and Tom Hann to put NAU ahead 1-0 in the match. In singles, Handel kept the Lumberjacks alive by taking down Sema Pankin 6-4, 7-6 at the top spot to even the match at 3-3 before teammate
Facundo Tumosa clinched the victory on court five.
