DENVER, Colo. (October 17, 2019) – Northern Arizona University men's tennis completed a tough second day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships.
After the duos won both doubles match yesterday, neither was able to clinch a win today.
Alex Groves and
Chris Steele fought their Nevada opponent's Daniel Dudockin and Julien Evrard hard, earning five points in an 8-5 win for Nevada.
Facundo Tumosa and
Eban Straker-Meads took on BYU's Sean Hill and Mateo Vereau, another tough match, falling just 8-3.
Straker-Meads played in his semi-final's singles match against Air Force's Mack Galvin today. In his previous matches, Straker-Meads received a bye and then went 6-0 and 6-4 against Weber State's Bo-Han Li. In the match today, Straker-Meads forced a three-set match to Galvin, winning in the first set 4-6. Despite Galvin's win, Straker-Meads put up a fight, ending both of the last two sets 6-3.
In the consolation bracket, Groves won his first match against Utah's Rafael Grovas in two sets of 6-2 and 6-4. In the second match, Groves fell to Idaho's Esteban Santibanez in three sets. Groves won 4-6 in the first and fought hard for another win in the second but ultimately ended the second 7-6(4). In the tiebreaker set, Idaho won over NAU 10-5.
Daniel Dillon also played to three sets in his consolation match against Utah's Paul McCallie. McCallie won the first set 6-2, but Dillon came back to win the second 6-2, forcing another ten-point tiebreaking match in the third. McCallie claimed the 10-4 win over Dillon.
The 'Jacks will continue tomorrow for more play at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships.
