Box Score San Diego, Calif. (February 10, 2019) – Tim Handel was able to seal a 4-3 win for Northern Arizona over San Diego State University on Feb. 10. The win pushes NAU to a 2-2 record overall and SDSU to a 2-3 record on the season.
"We had a great weekend in San Diego," NAU head coach
Maciej Bogusz said. "Every trip where you are able to bring almost all the players on the team is super fun. This is a very close group of guys, and the chemistry starts showing during our matches. I am very proud of the way we compete, our team is extremely deep, and we can win matches at any spot, which is our biggest strength. This win was a total team effort against a very talented SDSU team. We will celebrate the win and get back to practice courts after a day off."
The Lumberjacks were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead against the Aztecs by taking the doubles point. NAU's No. 1 doubles pair fell 6-2, but the No. 2 and No. 3 pairs were able to come up with wins to give the 'Jacks the point. The No. 2 team was made up

Ignacio Martinezof SDSU by a score of 6-2. The No. 3 duos for Northern Arizona sealed the first point for the Lumberjacks when
Lucas Taylor and
Facundo Tumosa beat
Nicholas Mitchell and
Fabian Roensdorf 6-4.
The Lumberjacks were able to push their lead to 2-0 when the No 5 singles player, Tumosa started off singles with a 6-2 and 6-3 win over San Diego State's
Rafael Gonzalez Almazan.
SDSU was able to pick up its first win in No. 3 singles. The win pushed the score to 2-1.
The 'Jacks continued to swap points with the Aztecs as NAU's No. 6 singles player Montano was able to win his point with a score of 6-2,3-6 and 6-4. The win pushed the score to 3-1, and the Lumberjacks were just one point away from taking home their second win. Unfortunately, Northern Arizona fell in its next two singles matches to drop to a score of 3-3. The match would all come down to the No. 1 singles player for each team.
Handel, the No. 1 singles player for NAU, came up clutch as he took down Roensdorf of SDSU with a score of 7-5,6-7, and 6-0.
