FARMINGTON, Utah (January 14, 2020) – After another dominating week, junior
Khiarica Rasheed was named the Big Sky Women's Basketball Ready Nutrition Player of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office. The Player of the Week award is Rasheed's first this season and second in her career.
Rasheed averaged 22.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on 65.5 percent shooting to lead the Northern Arizona women's basketball team to a pair of wins over Sacramento State and Idaho State last week.
In NAU's 114-107 double overtime win versus Sacramento State in the Walkup Skydome last Thursday, Rasheed posted her first double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 9-for-15 from the field. The 14 boards were a new career-high for the Portland, Ore. native and nine of her 14 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Rasheed followed up with 25 points and seven rebounds versus Idaho State in the Lumberjacks' 70-59 road win last Saturday. Rasheed was 10-for-14 from the floor overall and made her only three-pointer. She scored 21 of her 25 points in the second half on a perfect 9-for-9 showing, and accounted for all seven points during a 7-2 NAU run that extended the Lumberjacks' lead to 11 points with a minute left to play in the game.
Rasheed leads the Big Sky in scoring in conference play with 22.6 points per game. For the season, she is second in the league with 15.9 points per game.
The 'Jacks host Southern Utah on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Skydome.
