ARMINGTON, Utah (February 25, 2020) – With every week that passes, junior
Khiarica Rasheed is making quite the case for Big Sky Most Valuable Player honors following her second Big Sky Ready Nutrition Player of the Week award this season on Tuesday.
Rasheed was nothing short of dominant in a pair of Northern Arizona women's basketball wins last week, averaging 23.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in addition to recording three assists, three steals and a block. Rasheed shot 51.7 percent overall, and was 4-of 5 (80 percent) behind the arc and 13-of-15 (86.7 percent) at the line in the two games.
The Portland, Ore. native posted her first of two double-double performances on the week last Thursday in the double overtime 70-67 victory against Idaho, recording 21 points and 11 rebounds. She tied a career-high with nine free throws made in a 9-for-10 performance at the charity stripe.
Rasheed followed up with 26 points and 12 rebounds in NAU's 63-58 victory against Eastern Washington this past Saturday. Rasheed was 10-for-18 from the floor and grabbed seven of her 12 boards on the offensive end.
Her two double-doubles pushed her season total to six. Over the course of the two games last week, Rasheed jumped five spots to No. 14 on NAU's all-time scoring list.
Rasheed, who was named Big Sky Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in her career, leads the conference in scoring with 19.1 points per game in Big Sky games. She is the first Lumberjack with multiple Player of the Week awards in a season since Alyssa Wahl and Megan Porter both received two apiece during the 2005-06 season.
Rasheed and the Lumberjacks head out on their final road trip of the regular season this week beginning Thursday at Montana.
