FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 25, 2020) – For the first time this season, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team will be home in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex this weekend with their first two home matches. The Lumberjacks will host Montana in their home opener on Thursday at 2 p.m. before hosting New Mexico on Saturday at 10 a.m. Admission is free for all fans.
The Aquatic and Tennis Complex has provided the Lumberjacks with the ultimate home court advantage as the 'Jacks are 31-2 at home since the facility's opening in 2016.
NAU is 2-4 overall having played its first six matches of the spring on the road. Three of its losses have been to Pac-12 opponents, including last Saturday's narrow 4-3 loss to Oregon, but the Lumberjacks are 1-0 in conference having defeated Portland State, 6-1, in their Big Sky opener on Sunday.
Senior
Chiara Tomasetti remains undefeated this spring at 6-0 at No. 1 singles and she recently broke the program record for dual wins with her 63rd career victory last Sunday versus Portland State. Tomasetti, who has not dropped a set this spring, is tied for the league-lead with six singles wins, but has the most wins without a loss.
As a team, the Lumberjacks are an even 18-18 in singles with sophomore
Emilie Haakansson ranking second on the team with a 4-2 record – all at No. 4 singles. Sophomore
Adrianna Sosnowska is third with a 3-3 mark at No. 2 and both junior
Ellie Millard and sophomore
Elinor Beazley have two wins apiece.
Tomasetti and Millard were perfect last weekend in singles winning both of their matches versus Oregon and Portland State.

Mimi Bland went 2-0 in doubles last weekend and are tied for the team-lead with a 3-2 overall record this spring competing at the No. 1 position. Tomasetti and Millard are also 3-2 as the Lumberjacks' No. 2 doubles team.
NAU defeated Montana, 6-1, last season, marking the fourth straight year that the 'Jacks bested the Grizzlies. NAU is 27-7 all-time versus Montana.
The Grizzlies are 1-6 this season, and will be playing their conference opener on Thursday, with their lone win coming against Grand Canyon, 5-2, on Feb. 1. Montana has not competed in nearly two weeks since suffering a 7-0 loss to Denver on Feb. 14.
Julia Ronney is the lone Montana player with more than one singles win, compiling a 2-4 record so far at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Lauren Dunlap and Alex Walker are 3-3 in doubles, playing primarily at No. 3, and own three of the Grizzlies' five doubles wins this spring.
New Mexico has an identical 2-4 record as NAU and is coming off a 4-3 loss – its third this spring by one point – to Cal State Fullerton last Friday. The Lobos also defeated CSUN, 4-3, the day prior for their most recent victory.
The Lobos got the best of the Lumberjacks last spring in Albuquerque by a 4-3 score. It was the third straight year that NAU and New Mexico was decided in 4-3 fashion with NAU picking up the victory the previous two occasions. NAU is 5-20 all-time versus New Mexico.
New Mexico is led by Hsiang-Wen Huang, who is a team-best 4-0 in dual matches playing primarily at No. 6. Myu Kageyama and Sara Kuuttila-Webbert is an unbeaten 6-0 in doubles play at No. 2 as the Lobos are 10-6 as a team in doubles.
