Lumberjack Q&A with Kylie Kapustka

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (July 2, 2020) – This past season, rising senior Kylie Kapsutka appeared in 16 games for the Lumberjacks, scoring two goals to secure wins for NAU. Kapustka went on to record 429 minutes on the pitch, taking nine total shots, with six of those on-goal.

Q:  Have you returned to Flagstaff? Where were you before returning to Flagstaff and what did a normal day look like for you?

A: I have not returned back to Flagstaff. I am currently in Colorado Springs, Colo. A normal day started with either training or work. I would go to conditioning and train with a few girls from my old club team, and then we would go to weights. Other days, I worked at a local country club. I often would spend the evenings with family or friends. We always had dinner as a family.

Q: What are you most looking forward to when you get back competing on the field?

A: I am so excited to get back to competing on the field with my teammates. We were growing into such an amazing team this spring. Playing with your best friends is the best feeling and I can't wait to see our growth in action.

Q: What is motivating or encouraging you to push through these difficult times?

A: My motivation comes from my family, teammates and coaches. It was easy for me to stay motivated knowing it was for something bigger than me and knowing we are all facing this together. My teammates and coaches kept me going.

Q: How did you first get into your sport?

A: I first got into my sport when I was five years old. I went to watch my best friend play and instantly fell in love. I went home told my mom I wanted to play soccer and she signed me up. I grew to love the sport more and more every day since.

Q: If you could be a dual-sport athlete at NAU, what sport would you compete in and why?

A: If I could compete in more than one sport, I would do track. I love to run, and I think would be so fun to compete that way.

Q: If you could pick any other NAU student-athlete to try out your sport, who would it be and why?

A: I would choose Luis Aguilar because he can kick a football so far and it would be cool to see how he would be with a soccer ball.

Q: What is your best soccer memory ever?

A: My best memory playing is my first goal. I was six and I had the biggest smile ever. I still get the same rush scoring now.

Q: What is your major and what are your career aspirations?

A: I am an elementary education major. I would love to not only teach, but coach soccer. I also dream of having a nonprofit that brings education to children's hospitals.
