Eban Straker-Meads Earns First Big Sky Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah (March 23, 2021) – The Big Sky Conference has named NAU Men's Tennis senior Eban Straker-Meads as the Big Sky Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

Today marks Straker-Meads first Big Sky honor during his two year athletic career as a Lumberjack, as well as the first this season.

The senior from Nottingham, England, recorded two separate singles victories on court No. 1.

Straker-Meads found his first success against San Francisco on March 16 on the Dons' home court. The Lumberjack cranked out a first set win of 7-5 over USF's Nitzan Ricklis. In the second set, the senior kept the Don scoreless, winning 6-0 over Ricklis.

With the win on the court, Straker-Meads helped the Lumberjacks earn two points for the final tally.

The following day against Big Sky opponent Sacramento State, Straker-Meads again won on his No. 1 singles court, being a pillar in garnering the Lumberjacks their first season and conference win.

As the Hornets would earn the doubles point and the first singles court win, the Lumberjacks fought back hard to find their way on the board.

NAU set the pace with a win from Dominik Buzonics on court No. 4.

The 'Jacks would be down 3-1 with another court win from Sacramento, but not for long. The Big Sky Tennis Player of the Week would lean into Buzonics' win, settling fourth in the order of finish.

With Straker-Mead's win of 6-4 and 6-0 over SAC's Hermont Legaspi, the 'Jacks improved to 3-2. This victory would allow two more singles successes for NAU's first triumph of the year.

The NAU Men's Tennis program has not received this recognition since Lucas Taylor's fourth Big Sky honor back in April 2019.
