PROVO, Utah (September 24, 2021) - As the week comes to an end, NAU Men's Tennis heads back to Flagstaff after competing in their second fall tournament, the ITA Mountain Regionals.
Highlighting the Lumberjacks success from the tournament, was duo Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa. Straker-Meads and Tumosa battled their way to the semifinals in the doubles draw on Friday morning. The doubles pair faced Denver's James Davis and Matt Summers in Friday morning's match, who are ranked 20th in the nation according to the ITA preseason poll.
Overall the team had a successful week in Provo, bringing home four total doubles wins from Straker-Meads and Tumosa (3) and Joachim Schaefer and Marcus Sulen (1) in the main draw. In the doubles consultation draw, NAU took home six wins total from Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves (3) and Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon (3), both teams advanced to the finals of the draw.
In the singles main draw, the team recorded six wins coming from Straker-Meads (2), Groves (1), Ziomber (1), Buzonics (2), where Straker-Meads saw the most success making it to round four after a first round bye combining with his wins. In the singles consultation draw, the Lumberjacks recorded 5 total match wins from Sulen (2), Christopher Steele (3), and Schaefer (1).
The Lumberjacks will prepare for the next tournaments on schedule, coming up next week the Wildcat Invite hosted by Arizona, and the ITA All-American tournament.
