FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 5, 2022) - Northern Arizona hosted day two of the Lumberjack Diving Invite Saturday morning, including both 3-meter prelims, and 3-meter finals.
With thirty divers in totally, coming from NAU, University of New Mexico, New Mexico State, University of Idaho, and San Diego State, the prelims were a close race for the divers all looking to advance into finals.
NAU advanced six of its seven divers to the 3-meter finals. Victoria Knapp finished in second place during prelims, falling three points behind SDSU's Valentina Lopez Arevalo, with a score of 312.35. Following closely behind with top ten finishes, Maegan Jensen placed fourth at 289.05, Emily Luberto in fifth at 286.60, and Reaney Preston in sixth at 275.75.
Also advancing to finals, Freshman Makenna Sammons placed 14th with a score of 255.40. Kendall Marquez coming close behind, in 17th with a score of 247.10.
The top ten divers advanced into 3-meter finals, with a tough challenge ahead, the 'Jacks didn't back down. Knapp finished second overall through the day, with a final score of 646.85. Jensen placed fourth on the day with a score of 578.35. Luberto placed sixth for the 'Jacks with a final score of 559.40, and Preston finished eighth on the day with a final score of 546.45.
"It was another pretty awesome day, everyone was consistent, we didn't hit everything but we were solid and that's what we need to keep doing well in when going into conference and zones. Alyssa Jones had a great warmup, she just missed one dive a little too much in competition that knocked her out of the finals, but I'm very pleased with all of them," Head Diving Coach Nikki Kelsey said.
NAU will host the third and final day of the Lumberjack Diving Invite tomorrow, with Platform prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. MST. Prelims will be followed by a fifteen minute break, and platform finals to round out the invite in Flagstaff.
