FARMINGTON, Utah (March 22, 2022) – Finishing with a perfect 4-0 record between singles and doubles play last week in Northern California,
Gina Dittmann earned her first Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor this season.
It's Dittmann's third player of the week honor during her Lumberjack career, earning a pair of honors last spring before being named Big Sky Freshman of the Year and MVP, and the first for any Lumberjack player this season.
The sophomore opened her week with a pair of wins in San Francisco against the Dons. Pairing with
Ava Neyestani for the second time this season, the duo defeated Azaria Hayes and Hana Gamracy 7-5 on Court 3. Dittmann then finished her singles match with Maria Martinez Vaquero in a third-set tiebreaker, winning 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 at No. 1. Martinez Vaquero, also in her sophomore season, earned All-WCC Second Team Singles honors a year ago.
Taking on the Sacramento State Hornets a day later, Dittmann once again paired with Neyestani at No. 3 to win their third consecutive match together in as many tries this spring. The duo defeated Shauna Casey and Alexis Johnson 6-0 to help push Northern Arizona to an early 1-0 lead thanks to securing the doubles point.
Dittmann then put the Lumberjacks up 3-0 en route to a 5-2 road victory as she defeated Sacramento State's Weronika Ejsmont 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1.
Sitting at 7-2 in singles play this season and 3-0 in doubles with Neyetani, Dittmann is on a six-match win streak in singles play coupled with her four-match win streak in doubles overall. The sophomore has moved up to sixth all-time at Northern Arizona with 21 singles victories at No. 1 in 24 matches. Dittmann has yet to lose to an opponent outside of the Pac-12 during her career at Northern Arizona.
The Lumberjacks will return to the court for a pair of Big Sky Conference matches in Flagstaff this weekend, hosting the Idaho State Bengals on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. Northern Arizona's women's team will then complete a doubleheader with the men on Sunday as they host the Eastern Washington Eagles at 2 p.m.
