Box Score OGDEN, Utah (April 10, 2022) - Closing out the away slate on schedule, Men's Tennis earned a Big Sky victory with a 4-3 win to the Weber State Wildcats on Sunday morning.
As the team dropped the doubles point, Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa were still able to find success at the No. 1 position, as the pair went 6-0 to clinch their match. Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves fell in a close 5-7 match on court two, followed by Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon's 4-6 loss on court three.
Bouncing back in singles, the 'Jacks were ready to earn their win.
"It was a great effort by the whole group after not being able to secure the doubles point this time," Head Coach Maciej Bogusz said.
Tumosa earned a quick win at the No. 2 position, finishing his match at 6-2, 6-0 to WSU's singles leader Elyes Marouani. Ziomber followed suit at the No. 4 position with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Groves secured a third point for the Lumberjacks with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position. Clinching the match for NAU, Buzonics earned a win at the No. 3 position. After dropping the first set 4-6, the sophomore went on to win 6-1, 6-2 through the second and third set.
Straker-Meads moved into the No. 1 position today, dropping a tough 4-6, 4-6 match, giving Weber their second point. After a 6-1 first set victory, Chris Steele fell 3-6, 5-7 through the second and third set.
The Lumberjacks will return home this week, as they take on the Portland State Vikings in a men's and women's tennis double header on Saturday. The double header highlights the 2022 NAU Tennis Reunion, with the men's match starting at 10 a.m. MST.
