Men’s Tennis Set to Take on Portland State in Doubleheader with Women’s Tennis

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 14, 2022) - In what will be an exciting weekend for NAU Men's and Women's Tennis, the two teams are set to host the Portland State Vikings on Saturday, April 16, highlighting the 2022 NAU Tennis reunion.

Men's Tennis will take on the Vikings in the morning matchup, set to start at 10 a.m. MST on the outdoor courts at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex, and you can find live stats here.

The Lumberjacks are heading into the weekend match with an overall 16-8 record through the season, while going 4-2 in conference play so far, noting two consecutive Big Sky road wins.

The 'Jacks completed back to back wins with a 4-3 win at Weber State this past weekend, after earning the 4-3 win at the No. 71 University of Montana the weekend prior, giving the Griz their only conference loss of the season.

With just two regular season matches left on schedule before heading to the conference tournament, Junior Alex Groves and Sophomore Maciej Ziomber lead the team in overall singles play. The two each hold a singles record of 16-6, while Ziomber is primarily playing at the No. 4 position and Groves primarily plays at the No. 5 position.

In a close race for NAU's top doubles duo this season, Groves and partner Dominik Buzonics hold the lead with a 15-7 record, primarily playing at the No. 2 position. The 'Jacks No. 1 pairing, Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa currently hold a 3 match win streak in doubles play, with an overall record of 11-7.

The Portland State Vikings hold a 3-11 season record, going 1-5 in Big Sky play with their lone conference win coming to Eastern Washington in a 4-3 match.

PSU is led by Sam De Vries who holds an overall singles record of 6-8, as he plays primarily at the No. 4 position. The Vikings doubles pairing of Nils Plutat and Oliver Richards lead the team in overall doubles play with a 2-7 record.

The Lumberjacks and the Vikings last saw one another in the Spring 2021 Big Sky Championships, in the tournament's first round matchup. The 'Jacks swept the Vikings with a 4-0 match.
