FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 8, 2022) - The Lumberjacks are rounding out the final away match on schedule for the regular season this weekend, with a trip to take on the Weber State Wildcats.
On Sunday, April 10, the 'Jacks and the Wildcats will face one another in Ogden, with a match start time of 10 a.m. MST.
The Lumberjacks return to the courts after an impressive Big Sky conference win at the No. 71 Montana Grizzlies, where NAU pulled out the 4-3 win. Highlighting the win for the 'Jacks was Freshman Dani Torres as he secured the win at the No. 6 position in a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 match.
Sophomore Maciej Ziomber and Junior Alex Groves are tied for leading the team in overall singles wins this season, each holding a 15-6 record. Ziomber is primarily playing at the No. 4 position, while Groves is primarily playing at the No. 5 position.
Leading NAU in doubles is Groves and partner Dominik Buzonics, with a 15-6 record, primarily at the No. 2 position. No. 1 doubles pairing Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa hold a 10-7 doubles record, as well as the 'Jacks No. 3 doubles pairing Ziomber and Daniel Dillon. The team holds a .677 winning percentage in doubles play through the season.
Weber State will close out their regular season with Sunday's match, as they currently hold a 6-14 record, 2-4 in conference matches. Elyes Marouani leads the Wildcats in overall singles play with a 10-7 record, primarily playing at the No. 3 position. Marouani and doubles pairing Tristan Sarap lead the team in doubles play with a 9-7 record.
The Lumberjacks and Wildcats last met in March of 2021, where NAU earned the 6-1 victory in Flagstaff. The 'Jacks earned the victory with returners Groves, Straker-Meads, Buzonics, Ziomber, and Chris Steele all bringing in singles wins for the team.
