ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (February 10, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track and field teams had a successful first day of their road trip weekend, with a school record falling at the Don Kirby Invitational.
Alyssa Colbert ran the 200-meter, capitalizing on the banked track to run a time of 23.66. This time is both a new school and conference record. Colbert finished seventh overall in the event. Also competing in the 200-meter was
Kyairra Reigh, who finished with a sub-24 second time of her own. Reigh ran a time of 23.78 and finished 11
th overall in the event.
David Dunlap came close to breaking his own 200-meter record, finishing in a time of 20.69. Dunlap finished second in the event, behind Alabama's Tarsis Orogot who ran a time of 20.20.
LiNay Perry competed in the unseeded 200-meter and bettered her personal best by nearly a second. She finished eighth in the unseeded event, running a time of 24.14.
Another strong event group was the jumps squad, led by
Mitchell Effing. Effing finished second in the long jump with a mark of 7.81 meters. Also competing in the event were
Jack Normand and
Ian Lipsey who finished 16
th and 17
th with marks of 7.08 meters and 7.07 meters, respectively.
Jenna Figueroa matched her personal best in the high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters. Figueroa was the only Lumberjack to compete in the event and finished 22
nd overall.
Desmond Lott had an explosive day, setting a new PR to tie for the top mark in the weight throw in the Big Sky. He threw 20.28 meters, taking sixth place in the event.
John Murphy and
Parker Bays placed ninth and tenth with throws of 19.54 meters and 18.44 meters respectively.
In Seattle, the distance squad competed at the Husky Classic.
Annika Reiss led the women, finishing 14
th in the 3000-meter with a time of 9:11.93. Her time puts her at third all-time in NAU for the event.
Bryn Morley's time of 9:15.64 in the event puts her at fifth all-time in the event. Also entering the top-10 all-time list was
Nikita Moore, whose time of 9:22.11 puts her at seventh.
Brodey Hasty and
Theo Quax competed in the men's 3K, finishing fifth and sixth. Hasty finished with a time of 7:49.61, earning him a spot at number nine on the NAU all-time list. Quax ran a time of 7:49.89, setting a new personal best in the event.
In the 5000-meter,
Jesselyn Bries finished 17
th with a time of 16:11.24 to earn a new PR and a spot at number five on the NAU all-time list.
Corey Gorgas' time of 13:49.28 in the men's 5K was also a personal best and earned him eighth place in the event.
Tomorrow will see the continuation of competition in Albuquerque and Seattle, as well as
Nico Young's race at the 115
th Millrose Games. Competition at the Don Kirby Invitational will begin at 9:45 a.m. MST and live results can be found
