Austin, Texas (March 31, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams concluded the second day of their road weekend with impressive performances and widespread success.
The competition at the Bobcat Invitational was highlighted by a third-place finish in the high jump for
Jack Normand. Normand, who is first in the Big Sky and tied for 15
th nationally in the event, jumped 2.07 meters to finish in third.
Kenashalee Kerr, who is ranked first in the Big Sky in the long jump, cemented her place at the top of the conference in the event with a 5.68 meter mark today.
The lone runner in San Marcos this afternoon was
Madeline Wilson, who competed in the 200-meter. Wilson ran a personal best time of 24.12 to move up to third in the Big Sky in the event.
The Lumberjacks saw a series of good times at the Texas Relays today, although due to wind the marks will not be deemed legal. The women's 4x100-meter relay competed in a stacked field which included Texas' reigning NCAA National Champion relay.
Alyssa Colbert,
Kyairra Reigh,
Kenya Coburn, and
LiNay Perry combined to run a time of 45.79 and finish 23
rd overall. The relay is currently ranked first in the Big Sky, 12
th in the region, and 24
th in the nation.
The men's 4x100-meter relay competed in the B section, finishing eighth overall.
Trenton Givens,
David Dunlap,
Tyson Givens, and
Kyle Smith ran a time of 41.19 to show why they are the top relay team in the Big Sky.
Alyssa Colbert also competed in the qualifying round of the 100-meter, running a wind-aided time of 11.49 to finish 22
nd in a highly competitive field. Colbert is currently ranked first in the Big Sky, eighth in the west region, and 23
rd in the nation in the event.
Kenya Coburn competed in the B section of the event, running a time of 12.06 to cement her place at fourth in the conference.
Madeline Wilson competed in the 100-meter hurdles, placing 27
th with a time of 14.11.
Kyle Smith competed in a tough B section of the men's 100-meter, running a time of 10.57 and finishing 47
th. Smith sits at the top of the Big Sky in the 100-meter event rankings. Competing in the B section of the men's 110-meter hurdles was
Tyson Givens. Givens ran a time of 14.22 to finish 19
th and show why he is ranked first in the conference in the event.
Mitchell Effing was the lone field competitor at the Texas Relays today, competing in the triple jump for the first time this season. Effing jumped 15.12 meters, putting him at second in the conference.
Meanwhile, the distance squad was competing in Palo Alto, California at the Stanford Invitational.
Theo Quax had an impressive day as he earned a new PR in the 5000-meter. Quax competed in the first section of the 5K, finishing third in a time of 13:29.35. Also running in the first section was freshman
Colin Sahlman. Sahlman had a solid first collegiate 5K, finishing in a time of 13:42.98 to place 14
th.
Kang Nyoak placed seventh in the second section of the event after running a time of 13:47.01.
The women saw an outstanding effort in the women's 5K, with all four Lumberjack competitors in the third section.
Taryn O'Neill finished second with a time of 16:03.38, while
Nikita Moore wasn't far behind in seventh with a time of 3:16.55.
Meagan Van Pelt and
Alexis Kebbe finished ninth and 14
th, respectively, after running times of 16:13.63 and 16:24.55. Moore and Kebbe each earned new PR's in the race.
Also earning a new PR was
Drew Bosley who competed in the men's 10,000-meter. Bosley finished ninth in a stacked race after running a personal best time of 28:18.02.
Santiago Gomez-Prosser finished 24
th in the same race, running a time of 29:01.77 in his first outdoor 10K. In the women's 10K race,
Jesselyn Bries placed 22
nd in the first section after running a time of 33:03.07.
