CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (September 23, 2023) – The Northern Arizona Cross Country teams each saw dominant performances at today's Virginia Invitational as they swept the team and individual titles.
The men raced first, running an 8K as they scored a total of 71 points.
Drew Bosley placed first, running with the lead pack for the entirety of the race. He finished with a time of 23:20.3, finishing 3 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
Theo Quax was the next NAU finisher, placing sixth with a time of 23:31.3.
Santiago Gomez-Prosser placed 17
th with a time of 23:41.6, while
Kang Nyoak was close behind in 22
nd with a time of 23:43.7.
Corey Gorgas was the final Lumberjack scorer, placing 25
th with a time of 23:44.8.
Also racing but not scoring were
Colin Sahlman,
Aidan Puffer, and
Randy Espinoza. Sahlman finished 33
rd with a time of 23:50.5, Puffer placed 126
th with a time of 24:36.8, and Espinoza finished 161
st with a time of 24:56.2.
The 'Jacks were followed by BYU (101), North Carolina (157), Syracuse (167), and Villanova (169).
The women competed next, running a 5K as they finished with a score of 48 points.
Elise Stearns led the team and finished with the individual title, running a time of 16:18.9.
Annika Reiss and
Gracelyn Larkin were not far behind in eighth and ninth, with Reiss running a time of 16:30.3 and Larkin running a time of 16:33.2.
Keira Moore placed 14
th with a time of 16:40.5, while
Maggi Congdon rounded out the scoring in 16
th place with a time of 16:43.1.
Also competing but not scoring were
Nikita Moore,
Anna Fenske, and
Victoria Gaitan. Moore finished 35
th with a time of 17:01.8, Fenske placed 70
th with a time of 17:26.5, and Gaitan finished 112
th with a time of 17:52.3.
NAU was followed by Stanford (91), Virginia (110), Georgetown (185), and Iowa State (206).
The Lumberjacks will be on the road again next week, as they head to Tucson for the Dave Murray Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29.
