FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 19, 2024) – NAU track & field saw another unforgettable night inside of the Skydome, with impressive performances from multiple athletes.
Nico Young had a historic night, running the first sub-4 minute mile at 7,000 feet in collegiate history. His time of 3:57.33 easily won him the event and is the top time in the NCAA so far this season when adjusted for altitude.
Colin Sahlman finished second in the mile with a personal best time of 4:03.21, with
Theo Quax close behind in third with a time of 4:03.33.
Kang Nyoak and
Aaron Las Heras placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 4:06.88 and 4:10.04.
Erik Le Roux finished seventh in a time of 4:12.20 while
Riley Human placed ninth with a personal best time of 4:15.79.
Zack Munson and
Aidan Puffer finished 10
th and 11
th respectively, with times of 4:16.85 and 4:18.66.
Maggi Congdon won the women's mile with a time of 4:40.34, the 15
th fastest time in the NCAA this season. NAU placed eight runners in the top-10, with
Alyson Churchill finishing third with a time of 4:44.86 to put her at ninth on NAU's all-time records list in the mile.
Aliandrea Upshaw placed fifth with a time of 4:49.37, with
Gracelyn Larkin right behind in seventh with a time of 4:50.14.
Karrie Baloga placed seventh in her first race as a Lumberjack, running a time of 4:51.52.
Bryn Morley and
Meagan Van Pelt finished eighth and ninth, with Morley running a time of 4:52.39 and Van Pelt running a time of 4:56.70.
Ava Mitchell placed 10
th after running a time of 5:06.76.
Congdon and Baloga each also competed in the 800-meter, with Congdon earning her second event win of the night. She ran a time of 2:11.83 to finish first. Baloga placed third after running a time of 2:15.83.
Madeline Wilson broke her own school and conference record in the 200-meter, running a time of 23.29. Her time was 0.3 seconds faster than her previous record time of 23.59. LaTrouchka Duke placed sixth in the event with a time of 25.27, while
Brenna Rodriguez finished eighth with a time of 25.32.
Wilson also competed in the 60-meter placing second in the finals after running a personal best time of 7.39.
Alyson Churchill finished second in the 3,000-meter, her second event of the night, with a time of 10:03.79.
Gracelyn Larkin and
Aliandrea Upshaw were close behind in third and fourth respectively, running times of 10:07.20 and 10:10.03.
Skyler Wallace also competed in the 3K, running a time of 10:55.98 to finish seventh.
Brodey Hasty took the event win in the men's 3K after running a time of 8:40.30.
Aidan Puffer placed third in the event, running a time of 8:45.67.
In the men's 800-meter
Kang Nyoak took the event win after running a time of 1:53.12.
Erik Le Roux and
Zack Munson placed seventh and eighth respectively, with times of 1:57.66 and 1:59.26.
Trenton Givens finished second in the men's 200-meter after running a personal best time of 21.72.
Khamis Hassan and
Kyle Smith finished fourth and fifth respectively, both running times under 22 seconds. Hassan ran a time of 21.88 with Smith running a time of 21.97.
Joshua Anderson,
MarcAnthony Sanchez, and
Ian Lipsey finished in sixth, seventh, and eighth place. Anderson ran a time of 22.01, while Sanchez ran a personal best time of 22.02 and Lipsey ran a personal best 22.18.
Trenton and
Tyson Givens finished third and fourth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Trenton ran a time of 8.19 while Tyson ran a time of 8.31.
Mitchell Effing placed fourth in the finals of the men's 60-meter, running a time of 6.85. Also running a time of 6.85 was
Khamis Hassan who finished fifth behind Effing.
Alaynah Reed finished fourth in the women's 400-meter, running a time of 57.70.
Hannah Schmidt was not far behind in fifth, running a time of 57.95.
In the men's 400-meter,
Tyson Givens and
Colin Sahlman finished fifth and sixth respectively, each earning a new PR. Givens ran a time of 48.96 while Sahlman ran a time of 48.99.
The women's 4x400-meter relay saw an easy victory, with
Madeline Wilson,
Kyairra Reigh,
Alaynah Reed, and Hannach Schmidt combining to run a time of 3:47.80.
The men's A relay squad finished second, with
Joshua Anderson,
Cannon Booker,
Trenton Givens, and
MarcAnthony Sanchez combining to run a time of 3:13.77. The B relay squad placed fourth, with
Tyson Givens,
Kyle Smith,
Jackson Glamann, and
Dayne Ortega combining to run a time of 3:27.37.
Desmond Lott and
Parker Bays swept the top-2 in the men's weight throw, each finishing with a season best mark. Lott threw 20.16 meters to easily win the event, while Bays threw 18.93 meters to place second.
Cole White finished fourth with a mark of 16.70.
Lott and Bays also took the top-2 places in the shot put. Lott finished first with a season best throw of 16.44 meters. Bays placed second with a throw of 16.41 meters.
Jake Tucker and
Drayden Allen finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with marks of 15.48 meters and 15.29 meters.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp and
Alaina Diggs finished third and fourth in the women's weight throw. Horne-Kemp placed third with a throw of 17.40 meters while Diggs threw 16.98 meters to finish fourth.
Diggs took the event win in the women's shot put after throwing a season best 15.36 meters. Horne-Kemp placed eighth in the event with a personal best mark of 12.59 meters.
Brenna Rodriguez placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.49 meters.
Ian Lipsey finished seventh in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.17 meters.
Kenashalee Kerr placed third in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.47 meters.
Sirr Butler finished fourth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.58 meters.
