NAU Track & Field Sees Strong Performances to Close Out Road Weekend

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 27, 2024) – The NAU track & field team had another record-breaking day, highlighted by Maggi Congdon's impressive performance in Boston.
 
Congdon made history in the women's mile at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, breaking both the school and conference record. She ran a time of 4:30.24, finishing third in a stacked field. Karrie Baloga placed 14th after running a time of 4:36.72, putting her at third in the event on NAU's all-time performance list.
 
Congdon and Baloga both competed in the 3,000-meter as well, finishing third and fourth. Congdon ran a time of 9:15.67 to put her at sixth on NAU's all-time performance list, while Baloga ran a time of 9:16.10 to put her at seventh on the all-time performance list.
 
Alyson Churchill and Aliandrea Upshaw finished fifth and sixth in the women's 5,000-meter. Churchill's time of 15:36.07 puts her at number two on NAU's all-time performance list, while Upshaw's time of 15:43.82 puts her fifth on NAU's all-time performance list. Meagan Van Pelt also competed, placing 17th with a personal best time of 16:28.38.
 
The lone women's sprinter competing this weekend, Madeline Wilson finished 13th in the invitational women's 60-meter at the New Mexico Team Open after running a time of 7.55.
 
Mitchell Effing was the only Lumberjack jumper competing this weekend, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 15.04 meters. Effing is ranked first in the Big Sky and sixth in the nation in the triple jump.
 
Khamis Hassan competed in the unseeded men's 60-meter, finishing 21st with a time of 6.97.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay placed fourth amidst a competitive field. Tyson Givens, Trenton Givens, Cannon Booker, and Joshua Anderson combined to run a time of 3:13.52.
 
Both Trenton and Tyson Givens competed in the men's 60-meter hurdles, with Tyson Givens running a time of 8.17 to qualify for the finals of the event. Trenton Givens finished 21st overall with a time of 8.38. In the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Tyson Givens placed seventh after running a time of 9.87.
