FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 9, 2024) – The NAU track & field team continued their streak of success as they saw three school and conference records fall on the first day of their road weekend.
Madeline Wilson smashed the school and conference 200-meter record, running a time of 23.09 to finish second in the invitational 200-meter at the Don Kirby Invitational.
Kyairra Reigh finished 20
th in the race after running a time of 24.31.
Garret Bernt also broke a school and conference record in the weight throw, his fourth time doing so this season. He easily won the event with a throw of 22.14 meters, putting him at 12
th in the nation.
Parker Bays finished eighth in the event with a mark of 19.23 meters while
Desmond Lott finished 11
th with a mark of 18.13 meters.
Cole White finished 26
th with a mark of 16.02 meters.
Alyson Churchill inked her name in the history book at the Husky Classic, breaking the school and conference 3,000-meter record. Her time of 8:55.02 earned her fifth in a highly competitive field.
Karrie Baloga placed 13
th in the event with a time of 9:09.26 to put her at fourth on NAU's all-time performance list.
Annika Reiss finished 17
th with a time of 9:13.02.
Maggi Congdon,
Nikita Moore, and
Bryn Morley placed 23
rd, 24
th, and 25
th. Congdon ran a time of 9:16.68, while Moore ran a time of 9:18.38 and Morley ran a time of 9:18.61.
Ava Mitchell and
Meagan Van Pelt also competed, with Mitchell placing 32
nd with a time of 9:26.41 while Van Pelt finished 34
th with a time of 9:27.00.
In the men's 3K,
Aaron Las Heras finished second after running a time of 7:37.26. His time puts him at number two on NAU's all-time performance list in the event and is the second fastest 3K time to be run this season in the NCAA.
Theo Quax finished fourth in the event with a time of 7:39.85, putting him at fourth on NAU's all-time performance list.
Colin Sahlman and
Brodey Hasty finished seventh and eighth respectively, with times of 7:48.59 and 7:52.59.
Drew Bosley and
Corey Gorgas finished 21
st and 22
nd, with Bosley running a time of 8:01.80 while Gorgas ran a time of 8:02.65.
Ford Washburn also competed, placing 50
th with a time of 8:13.93.
At the Don Kirby Invitational,
Kyle Smith competed in the men's invitational 200-meter, placing 21
st with a personal best time of 21.53.
Joshua Anderson finished fourth in the men's 400-meter with a personal best time of 48.27.
Cannon Booker was the next best NAU athlete, placing 14
th with a personal best time of 49.65.
In the women's 400-meter,
Hannah Schmidt and
Alaynah Reed finished 46
th and 49
th. Schmidt ran a time of 58.73 while Reed ran a time of 58.78.
Ian Lipsey placed 12
th in the unseeded men's 200-meter with a personal best time of 21.76. Anderson and
MarcAnthony Sanchez finished 19
th and 21
st, respectively, each running personal best times of times of 21.87 and 21.91. Also competing were
Khamis Hassan and
Sirr Butler who placed 33
rd and 48
th, respectively, with times of 22.09 and 22.88.
LiNay Perry was the lone Lumberjack competitor in the women's unseeded 200-meter, placing 17
th with a time of 24.50.
Mitchell Effing took the event win in the long jump with a mark of 7.78 meters.
Ian Lipsey placed 12
th with a mark of 7.26 meters.
Christian Mutengela and
Sirr Butler finished 44
th and 48
th respectively, with marks of 6.60 meters and 6.35 meters.
Madeline Wilson also competed in the long jump, placing 21
st with a personal best mark of 5.91 meters.
Brenna Rodriguez also competed, finishing 39
th with a mark of 5.66 meters.
Alaina Diggs was the top NAU finisher in the women's weight throw, placing 15
th with a mark of 17.33 meters.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp was not far behind in 19
th with a mark of 17.02 meters. Tania Duncan also competed, placing 32
nd with a personal best mark of 14.84 meters.
At the Husky Classic, the 'Jacks had a strong trio of women compete in the 5,000-meter.
Gracelyn Larkin and
Aliandrea Upshaw placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 15:34.04 and 15:36.48. Larkin is now second on NAU's all-time performance list in the 5K, while Upshaw is now fourth.
Ruby Smee earned herself a spot at number six on the all-time performance list after running a time of 15:43.49 to place 12
th.
In the men's 5K,
Aidan Puffer was NAU's top finisher after placing eighth with a personal best time of 13:51.91.
Zack Munson finished 14
th with a time of 13:56.73.
Terrence Keyes and
Erik Le Roux finished 24
th and 25
th respectively, running times of 14:11.22 and 14:13.05.
