BOSTON, Mass. (March 8, 2024) – The NAU track & field team saw a strong second day of competition at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, with
Nico Young earning his first individual title.
The men's team is currently tied for first alongside Arkansas with a score of 18 points.
Nico Young split nearly 27 seconds in his final two laps to take the lead of the men's 5,000-meter. He finished with a time of 13:25.29 to set a new facility record and earn his first NCAA National Champion title. Young earned 10 points for the Lumberjacks and finished as a first-team All-American.
Aaron Las Heras placed sixth in the race with a time of 13:31.55 to add two points to the team total.
Theo Quax also competed, finishing 14
th with a time of 13:45.34.
Gracelyn Larkin competed in the women's 5K, placing 15
th after running a time of 16:03.80.
Maggi Congdon competed the preliminary rounds of both the mile and the 800-meter, qualifying for finals in each event. She ran a time of 4:34.06 in the mile and a time of 2:02.64 in the 800-meter. Congdon will compete in the finals of the mile tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. MST, and in the finals of the 800-meter at 5:30 p.m. MST.
Colin Sahlman competed in the preliminary round of the men's mile, qualifying for the finals after running a time of 3:58.73. Sahlman will return to compete in the finals of the event tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. MST.
Competition will continue tomorrow beginning at 1:30 p.m. MST with
Mitchell Effing in the long jump. Young, Las Heras, and Quax will all return to compete in the 3,000-meter at 3:00 p.m. MST. A full meet schedule can be found on our website. Live results can be found
