Northern Arizona Tied for Third After Round One of Big Sky Championships

LITCHFIELD, Ariz. (April 15, 2024) – After round one of the Big Sky Conference Championships, the Northern Arizona University golf team sits tied for third after shooting a 293 (+9) through 18 holes as a team. The Lumberjacks are in action at the Wigwam Golf Course (par-71, 5,948 yards) in Litchfield, Ariz.
 
NAU was predicted to finish second by the coaches in the Big Sky Preseason poll and are currently tied for third with Montana. The Lumberjacks are five strokes behind second-place Weber State and have a one-stroke lead over fifth-place Idaho State. Sacramento State, the defending conference champions, has a six-stroke lead heading into tomorrow's second round.
 
Lizzie Neale started out the day strong with an eagle on the third hole and earned three birdies overall. After shooting a 71 (E) for her 14^th round at par or better this season, Neale heads into day two tied for seventh.
 
Nina Lukyanenko, a sophomore, ended the day with an eagle on the 18^th hole and is currently tied for 16^th after making it around the course in 73 (+2) strokes.
 
Right behind Lukyanenko is fellow sophomore Ellena Slater who is tied for 20^th after shooting a 74 (+3) with four birdies on the day. Amy Hodgkins, a true freshman, earned five birdies today to tie for 28^th with a 75 (+4).
 
Frankie Dezis rounds out the competition with a 79 (+8) to tie for 46^th.
 
Tee times for NAU begin at 9 a.m. Mountain Standard time tomorrow for round two with the third round concluding on Wednesday, April 17. Live scoring is available here on Golfstat.
