BOZEMAN, Mont. (May 10, 2024) – The NAU track & field team saw a strong start to the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with five athletes earning individual titles.
The NAU women are currently in second place with a score of 47.5 points.
LiNay Perry set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 58.00 to qualify for the finals of the event.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp took the individual championship in the hammer throw, hitting a mark of 58.98 meters to earn 10 points.
Karrie Baloga earned her first Big Sky individual title, taking first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.87 and earning 10 points.
Anna Fenske won the individual title in the 10,000-meter after running a personal best time of 34:46.12 to score 10 points.
Ruby Smee placed second in the event with a time of 34:48.77 to earn eight points.
Alaina Diggs placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.04 meters to earn eight points for NAU.
Kenashalee Kerr tied for seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.75 meters to score one and a half points for the 'Jacks.
Brenna Rodriguez tied for 13
th place with a mark of 5.64 meters.
Eight Lumberjack women qualified for the finals of the 1,500-meter.
Annika Reiss,
Nikita Moore,
Maggi Congdon,
Gracelyn Larkin,
Bryn Morley,
Ava Mitchell,
Keira Moore, and
Karrie Baloga will each compete in the finals of the event.
Congdon, Reiss,
Nikita Moore,
Odessa Zentz, and
Keira Moore all qualified for the finals of the 800-meter. Zentz's time of 2:10.64 was a personal best.
Kyairra Reigh had the fastest qualifying time of the 400-meter with a time of 53.04.
Madeline Wilson qualified for the finals of the 100-meter after running a time of 11.73.
Wilson ran the fastest qualifying time of the 200-meter with a time of 23.15. Reigh also qualified for the finals of the event with a time of 23.82.
The Lumberjack men currently sit in third place with a score of 33 points.
Mitchell Effing won the Big Sky individual title in the long jump with a mark of 7.62 meters to score 10 points.
Ian Lipsey finished 10
th in the event with a mark of 6.94 meters.
Cael Grotenhuis won the individual title in the 10,000-meter after running a time of 29:39.28 to score 10 points.
Zack Munson placed fourth with a time of 30:36.44 to score five points.
Terrence Keyes finished 12
th in the event with a time of 31:39.31.
Clay Carbajal placed seventh in the javelin with a mark of 62.03 meters, scoring two points for the Lumberjacks.
Garret Bernt placed third in the discus with a mark of 52.19 meters to earn six points.
The NAU men had six athletes advance to the finals of the 1,500-meter.
Nico Young had the fastest qualifying time of the day, running a time of 3:43.12. Also qualifying for the finals of the event were
Aaron Las Heras,
Caleb Easton,
Colin Sahlman,
Brodey Hasty, and
Kang Nyoak.
Young and Sahlman also qualified for the finals of the 800-meter.
Tyson Givens qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles after running a personal best time of 14.15.
Givens also qualified for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles along with
Ethan Seppala and
Cannon Booker. Givens, Seppala, and Booker all earned new PRs in the event, with Given's time putting him seventh on NAU's all-time performance list.
Kyle Smith and
Khamis Hassan qualified for the finals of the 100-meter. Smith ran a personal best time of 10.34, the fourth-fastest time in NAU history. Hassan's time of 10.50 was a personal best and the ninth-fastest in school history.
Smith also qualified for the finals of the 200-meter after running the fastest qualifying time of 20.88 to earn a new PR in the event. Smith's time was the fifth-fastest time in school history.
