LAS VEGAS. (October 20, 2025) – This past week, the NAU men's tennis teams traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the ITA Mountain Regional Championships.

Takumi Katsuda and
Vincent Vohl represented the Lumberjacks on the campus of UNLV.
In singles, Vohl lost his match in the qualifying draw to Jakub Medved from Utah State, 7-6(2), 1-6, 6-0. Volesky got through qualifying with a straight set win over Boise State's Micheal Severson 6-4, 6-0. However, he fell in the first round of the main draw to No. 9 Dario Ciobotaru of New Mexico in a three-set battle, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Katsuda and Tcherniack began singles play in the main draw, with Katsuda dropping his first round match in straight sets while Tcherniack made it to the second round. The sophomore beat BYU's Owen Redd, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, before falling to the top-seeded Ilia Snitari from UNLV, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, Volesky was paired up with Tcherniack while Vohl was with Katsuda. Both pairs reached the quarterfinals or further of the main draw, starting with 8-6 wins over Big Sky foes from Idaho State in the first round.
In the second round, Volesky and Tcherniack took down the No. 5 seeds from Air Force, 8-3, propelling them to the round of 16. Katsuda and Vohl won by the same score as they did in the first round, this time over Nevada.
During the round of 16, Vohl and Katsuda shocked the No. 3 seeded pair from Boise State, winning by way of an 8-7(10-8) tiebreak. Tcherniack and Volesky continued their run to the quarters with an 8-6 win over the No. 10 seeded team from BYU.
Tcherniack and Volesky's run came to an end after an 8-5 loss to No. 4 Avery Tallakson and Carson Baker of Boise State, while Vohl and Katsuda marched their way to the semifinals with an 8-5 win over a BYU.
Katsuda and Vohl's run then ended in the semifinals in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to No. 11 Emmett Potter and Maximillian Relic from Utah.
NAU was one of two teams in the tournament to have both its doubles teams in the quarterfinals stage, with Vohl and Katsuda also representing the lone unseeded pair in the semis. The Lumberjacks continued their recent success in doubles play, as they reached the semifinals for the third time in the last five years at regionals.
Lumberjack men's tennis is back in action on Nov. 6 when they trek to San Diego, California for the Triton Fall Invite. NAU will await a possible nomination to the ITA Masters and Sectional Championships, also beginning Nov. 6.
